Do you wish, worldly viewer,
to be caught up in a diabolical tango at the Ball of a Hundred Kings?

«Then follow me, and only me, my viewer!
And I will show you a story of true, faithful,
eternal love!»

Plot

Plot

The musical is written on the foundation of the mystic novel of the same title by Mikhail Bulgakov. Six librettists contributed to the project’s realization: Irina Afanasieva, Maria Oshmyanskaya, Sergei Shilovskiy-Bulgakov (M. Bulgakov’s grandson), Andrey Pastushenko, Igor Shevchuk, and Chris Hancock.

The libretto was written using the newest “Situational Scenario” technology – the combination of factors and conditions drawing the viewer into the performance area. The spectators find themselves pulled into an interactive show, and they themselves become participants in Woland’s diabolical play.

The musicians and conductor of the “devilish orchestra” take part in creating the mystical display. Every performance is truly one-of-a-kind, distinct from every other.

Even the great British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber admitted that he didn’t know how to bring Bulgakov’s novel to musical fruition. The producing company Makers Lab has succeeded in doing just that. The Master and Margarita is a joint project with the Saint Petersburg city theater Music Hall and the support of the Cultural Committee. The project’s musical director is the famous Italian conductor and pianist Fabio Mastrangelo. A star lineup brings the project to life: actor and theatrical director Andrei Noskov, Sofia Streisand, the stunning choreographer/set designer Dmitri Pimonov, and film festival prizewinner Timofei Zhalnin.

Six composers took part in composing the music: Anton Tanonov (head of the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory), Olga Thomas (composer for the Queen of England), Sergei Rubalskiy, Irina Dolgova, Oleg Popkov, and Alexander Maev. Photo-artist Andrey Kezzyn also took part in the project.
